Following the completion of his Double Degree in Property and Commerce, Matt began full time as a salesperson at James Group in January 2015, slotting into the highly successful James Group South Auckland Industrial team. Matt’s particular area of attention is the Otahuhu, Panmure & St Johns sales & leasing market.

As the only commercial salesperson specifically focusing in the niche area of Otahuhu, Matt has managed to build lasting relationships with owners, tenants & purchasers helping them whether it be aiding vendors selling their asset to investors or owner occupiers or securing a new lease for a landlord to a trusted tenant, Matt is now replicating this business model in the tightly held Panmure & St Johns area with great effect.

Playing in top grade sport throughout high school and thereafter, Matt’s hunger and competitiveness is what drives him forward in the busy industry of Commercial Real Estate and if he’s not working he’ll be on the golf course or cricket pitch winning their too.

Case Study - Pukeiti Road

In the middle of 2018, Matt was calling through Pukeiti Road in Otahuhu, touching base with the owners on the street. The owner of number 15 had recently moved his personal business out of the premises and after a few face to face meetings decided he was keen to sell the property rather than lease it out. Following an extensive four month marketing campaign, the property ended up not selling. After analysing why, we realised it was due to its unique shape and design as well the banks being cautious on lending to investors purchasing vacant buildings. 


With the landlord’s increasing determination to sell, we recommended that we commence an initial leasing campaign for the property, with the next step to re-present it to the market as a tenanted investment. Following a number of viewings, Matt and his business partner Pete managed to secure a high quality car retailer and financier on a 3 year lease.


At the beginning of 2019, the property was placed back on the market with a fresh tenant in place, providing a completely different proposition to what the property was the year before. Within two months the property was under contract with a passive investor at the vendor’s desired level that he was looking to achieve the year prior.


For Matt, persistence coupled with creativity is key in order to achieve a successful result for the vendor. When looking at an opportunity, it is vital to be able to see it from all angles in order to work out how to realise the best outcome possible.
